I have been fighting a misfire for several months now andthought I would join in. Items changed:

Spark Plugs, cleaned intake, wires, Crank Sensor, CamSensor, Computer or ECU.

It is a 1998 Discovery LSE, that misses on 8&5 and3&2. I discovered this by letting itidle with a timing light on each plug wire. 6&1 and 4&7 never miss. You can hear the motor cut out as well, but it is sporadic not a consistentmiss. I pulled the coils and swappedthem and it didn’t change anything still missing on 8&5 and 3&2. I have two threads and though some have triedno one has been able to solve this problem. I even spoke with DiscoMike on the phone and he was at a loss. One other thing to mention is it will runhorribly if I plug in the fuel temp sensor on top of the gas tank. You have to give it gas constantly and smokeslike a train. Anyone want to try and tackleit?

That sounds awful and frustrating. If you have researched, I am sure you have read about my flailing about and finally curing misfires. I replaced my head gasket and a number of other things but ultimately the MAF and a wiring harness were the problems. The fuel temp sensor and the 5 cylinder misfire are throwing me for a loop. If Mike can't diagnose it there is little chance that I could, but...

Have you tried swapping the MAF? Have you tried swapping a good cylinder's injector for a bad cylinder's injector?

I found a tooth missing (inside tooth) on the reluctor. I fabricated a tooth out of a saw blade and epoxiedit last night (wanted to see if it fixed the problem before I tore everythingapart to fix). I cranked it this morningbefore going to work and it ran like a top for about 30sec and then startedcutting out. I hope it started runningrough because it slung the tooth off, I will check it at lunch if I havetime.

Got a P0304. Installing new Kingsborne wires (8mm) & Champion 7070's this very day. Will clear the codes and see what happens. Wish me luck.

Hey all...

I married a girl and she had baggage...a 2000 Discovery.

We've now had a failed driveshaft, bad O2 sensor, head gasket leak, waterfall effect and a few other issues.

2 days ago got P0308.
Changed the plugs yesterday and still have the issue.

I don't really want to waste time and money on this beast anymore, but can't have her driving around like this. It's still got power, but idles rough. No overheating.

Do I have to change all the wires? Can I just buy and replace #8?
Anyone every heard of just buying one wire?

The problem is that I'm in Chicago and she's in Indianapolis right now.

Thanks for any advice.

Cool Random Misfire and Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor

Hi I have a 1999 Land Rover Discovery SD (1) I'm pulling code p0451 which has something to do with fuel tank pressure and im also getting p0300 which means random misfire. I changed two coils, plugs, cleaned MAF and changed a busted O2 sensor. I'm also pulling codes P1316, P1366, P1314, and P1313. Could this be a faulty or clogged injector? What should I do?

Hi your best bet on getting a drive shaft is your local junkyard, unless your willing to pay more money for a new one, the process of replacing it is fairly simple in comparison to other drive train jobs. You can buy an O2 sensor at an auto parts store such as advance auto parts my O2 sensor cost about $82 plus tax, for my disco 1. The process of replacing it was very easy all I used was a crows foot and a half inch ratchet. Depending on the color of exhaust smoke you may want to change the head gasket, which is a big job.

Default Misfires on '01 D2

A local shop says I have misfires on cylinders 1,6, 5,8 and wondering if I can identify the ignition cables and just replace those first. The MAF was replaced in 2013 so I doubt that's the culprit.

Thanks!

Default 04 disco with 01 4.0 p0304

Hi
Ever since i put the 4.0 in i have had a sort of rough, but just bairly rough idle and now im getting cyl 4 misfire code. Otherwise it runs great and i switched the plugs, wires and coil packs without any improvement. The plug is not fouling and i dont suspect heads, but idk where to look now. It runs great! Just keep getting this code. Oh... when it has the code present in the computer it starts up wierd like there isnt much umf to it when you start it in the morning.
cpk? Advice please?
