Have you changed your oil again yet?

Changing the oil is the one step many people leave out only to find the lower end to fail months after major overhaul.

Also...take the filter off and cut it in half and check the contents.
Yah, just ran it for the cam break in, AC charge and power steering bleed. it was pouring today so I didn't want to take it out.

I'm going to change the oil before I actually drive the thing, and then again after 1000 miles.

Here's a video of the cam breakin run

Maiden voyage was today. Changed the oil, ran it through a filter and didn't get any chunks. Oil filter looked good and clean too. Installed the oil pressure and oil temp gauges.

The engine is SO much smoother than before the rebuild. NO ticks at all. It runs great and feels like its not as much of a slug too! I wouldn't say the 229 cam makes a gigantic difference, but there's probably some there. Hard to really care about performance with this truck.

Next up 2 inch lift, brakes all around and wheels/tires!

1500 mile update:

Still running like a top. No coolant leaks, no oil leaks. Oil pan still looks spotless!

Glad to hear your happy with the results. I used the same cam in my upper engine rebuild. Mine runs really good. Part throttle acceleration is a big improvement. I did some porting on the heads. Mainly gasket matching the ports and blending into the valve pockets. Did the same with the exhaust manifolds. I noticed the carbon on the heads and manifold flanges, hence why I did it. Flow is everything to a motor. Made a big difference. Its more efficient and is a pleasure to drive. My disco never pulled so good before. If I had to I'd do it again I would! The only thing I would change is going with the 230 cam and the 4.6 rotating assembly. Im actually looking for a 4.6 block or abused 03-04 disco for the motor. Happy driving!

Btw. After diving for a couple hundred miles you will need to retorque everything. My oil pan was lose. So was valve covers and exhaust manifolds and so on. Once retorqued it was okey dokey

What method did you use to refill the coolant system?
