Default nail in tire...wheel stuck WTF

Well it happened to me.

i never herd of a rim sticking to the hub...but it just happened to me, i noticed i had a nail in my tire...so i took the spare tire off the door and prepared to remove the old rim.....wow....

first...i carry a cross with me all the time in the disco...the lug nuts wouldnt move at all...i even grabbed the stock tire iron and used a 8ft steel pole to use a leverage........i BENT THE TIRE IRON....but the lugnuts came off....

then i tried to kick the **** out of the tire and that didnt work right away....then i put the lug nuts on a bit and dropped the truck down and the rim moved a bit...then i beat the **** out of the ****ing rim with my ****ing foot.......

rim 0
adam 1

to prevent this from happening again...i cleaned up the hub surface and coated the lugnut threads and hub surface with anti-seize.....hopefully that will work..

**** yea

****....i love the bleeping feature

Ain't that something?

I grease mine (hubs/nuts) since several years ago I had to back off the nuts 1 turn and drive around the block with my RR.

(But I worked on them for about a half hr first)LOL

luck,greg

There is actually a TSB on lubricating the wheel to hub mating surfaces to prevent the wheel from seizing to the hub. I'll try to locate it tomorrow, as I am busy watching that Top Gear video linked earlier.

That is what happens when you take two different metals and put pressure on them. Add in some corrosion and you have wheels that will be a pain to get off.

Still up. TSB 10/01/01/NAS: At maintenance intervals or whenever a wheel is removed for repairs, lubricate the wheel-center with a zinc-based anti-seize compound. The antiseize grease should be used for all models on the wheel mounting surface when refitting alloy wheels.

Default jeeezzz..

and another chapter in in the most frustrating things these idiots have designed.. i remember a while ago my wife had a flat on our 95RR 4.0 near the house and between a couple of big guys and a tow truck driver it took them a hour to get the wheel off.

funny story though, Chris

There are plastic wheel spacer thingies that you can buy and they go between the rim and the hub.
They are paper thin but keep this from happening.
I do not know what they are called or where I last saw them, but they are like $15 for a set of 4.
I think I saw them on a RR site.

I hadn't ever thought about that, Spike. I know you can buy "brake dust shields" at a lot of auto pars stores (large diameter thin plastic discs that fit behind your wheel) to keep brake dust off your wheels. You could get a set of those and cut off all but the hub area to serve the same purpose of the anti-seize.
