Need Advice On Leaking Rear Differential

I’m concerned that you’re saying axle nut...there is no nut that needs removing. There are four bolts that go into the back of the hub that hold it onto the hub carrier. Remove the four bolts, not the axle nut.

Thanks Brandon, very insightful! I'm glad I left the rear end alone over the last couple days. This will be much easier to deal with now.

I have a 1970 S2A and the rear differential's housing (the pumpkin) is rusted through at the top and is leaking. My mechanic says he can fix it by grinding off the rust and completely cover the diff housing with JB Weld steel epoxy. I have had great luck with JB Weld and although it sounds like it might be worth a try for this application but I would gladly welcome any suggestions or relatable experiences such as this one.

Hi Eric. You’re posting in the Disco section. There is a Series section of this forum. I’m pretty sure JB Weld will work for a while but probably not a good long term fix.
