I just want to make sure before I order my engine. If I have secondary air I will have the pump and filter unit on the passenger side fire wall. Is that correct?

By that picture you have secondary air. You are correct about the pump. Also there are the 2 pipes that run along the back of the engine that attach to the SAI coming from the heads.

I have the 2003 in the Vin range, Oil light is on, I am getting it checked tomorrow just to verify it is the pump. If so, I will be getting a 2004 complete motor from Roverland Parts. They seem to be the best from what I have read on here.

I know I could just throw a new pump in this one but that is just a band-aide fix. Not going to do that and wonder WHEN it will happen again.

100 bucks for a oil pump plus the two gaskets for the job. If it were me I would do it. its a cheap fix.

and just because its in the vin doesnt mean its gonna kill the motor. if you fix it and it comes on then you are screwed.

if it were me I would put the pump in and clean out the pickup. make sure to use only 5w30 regular oil and if that dont work. put in a new small block.

It's a cheap band aide, not a fix. If it was only me that drove this then no problem but the Mrs. drives it with the kids and if it did happen again at 70mph and the engine were to freeze up ? Not worth the chance to me.

Oil pick up is clean, only use 5w30 Mobil 1 and just did the 60,000 mile service.
If it's the pump it IS getting an engine swap.

Thanks for the link Spike, I do have SIA.

you want a used engine, guess what, the heads are leaking as is the frt timing cover. you will need to spend lots more in fixing the engine up or else you are wasting even more time.

Like I said, do all your finances and time to see what it will truly cost. An oil pump can be at your house overnite and installed soon afterwards and it will be alot cheaper. Or you wait for the used engine. then spend tons more money to fix the other problems if the engine isn't knocking or worse, the oil light comes on. Talk it over with the wife. Remember it will cost more in labour and time and at least you can give the engine a few more days of good running before you have to bite the bullet.

and if the oil light comes back on then just order a shortblock and install new gaskets and you will all set.

I am just giving you options what a dealer or independant would give you.

Thanks Rovin, I didn't mean to come across like an a$$. I understand what your telling me. The current engine has roughly 63,000 miles on it. It will need head gaskets and front cover seal as well. There is an oil leak I cannot locate, more a pain then a problem. I will need to stick the money into this one as well. I can get a short block but then labor and parts will run me a substantial amount as well.
If it is the oil pump that is destroyed, I can get a 2004 complete engine w/39,000 mi on it, tested, from Roverland. Toss new gaskets all around as well as a new water pump if needed for about the same cost to me where I am located.
The truck is in great shape for the year, no rust, well maintained and I just want it more or less worry free for the next 2-5 years.
As far as talking it over with the wife......not sure if she really cares what I do as long as it never leaves her stranded.
