Need a new engine (my fault), need swap recommendations
Disappointing news for sure, I hydro-locked my Rover the other day - threw a rod and made a hole the size of a baseball out of the crank case. Hey live and learn.
I am looking to swap in a used or refurbished engine. Thoughts on putting in a 4.6L from an 04'? I have a 2000 Disco II with SAI.
Do you guys know where I can buy a reliable engine, besides atlantic british? I am checking ebay and they are just torn from wrecked rovers, I am trying to find something at least tested/certified. Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated!

P38 4.6's are a pretty safe bet. they didn't get any of the red dot blocks, if you can find a blue dot you are golden. Dont remember if the last two years of the p38 got the thor intake or not but if they were GEMS you can just swap your stock intake on there.
like OverRover said, stay away from cannibal. If you decide to buy "new", go with turner.
My plan of attack would be to find a p38 or 2003-04 disco for cheap and just buy the whole vehicle. that way you can observe it running while in the vehicle and do a full diagnostic work up, including reading plugs, testing for bad head gaskets, listening for knocks, etc. whereas buying a "known good" pull out motor from ebay (or elsewhere) is a complete crap shoot.

or just ditch the sai hardware and deal with the occasional MIL.
I have a scanner permanently attached and running data, so when i get an sai code, it takes me 3 seconds to reach up and clear the code. Eithere way, there's no ill-effects from a lack of sai, with or without the proper ecu.

you can either run a non-sai ecu, easily sourced on ebay.
