I didn't realize you had Davico, too. That's unanimous: they aren't put together right. I can tell from the photo, and there isn't much give in those pipes. I'm not even sure two gaskets would make up that difference.

I had to bend my right side out with a ratcheting tie down so it wouldn't hit the driveshaft. I just decided it was too big of a pain to return.

Someone needs to return one. I considered getting two high flow cats and just welding them on. The trouble is that the inlet and outlet on the original pipes is offset at the passenger cat.

Now to either cut those cats off the new and weld to the old. Or return to RockAuto if possible and get 2 new cats to cut and weld on. Pipes are good. Just bad cats.

Look at the flange on the far left and far right.

Also, I got the Dorman 8 x 1.25 studbolts but aside from too long, the buffer is too wide between threads. The exact match was actually listed as water pump bolts. Dorman 23737. I used acorn nuts from the other kit.
I just typed a reply and it disappeared. I can see the problem in the photo and I don't think doubled gaskets will fix that. I guess Davicos just aren't put together carefully enough. I wrestled mine to close enough because I hate trying to ship stuff like that. Also my local exhaust shop quoted more than the entire Davico setup for just one cat replacement.

Aren't the in and out pipes on the factory passenger cat offset? That's what I recall, anyway, and another reason I didn't try to just cut and weld myself.

If you can find a high flow cat that will work on the factory pipes that would be the best route. Everyone I have ever spoken with about Davico pipes had trouble with them, including me.
Otherwise I'd make the seller send you a replacement.

What a bummer.

Charlie, can you elaborate on the last part? My plan was to order two new cats, go to a muffler shop and have them cut off the old cats and weld in the new ones. Will that not work?

Another option is to use the Davico setup, cut out the cats and some pipe and weld that onto the existing pipes. What do you think? It sounds like the aftermarkets may not fit welded in and maybe the Davico could work by cutting out the cats with a small section of the pipe on each end of each cat?

On my stock passenger cat, the pipe that comes from the manifold enters the cat at a higher position than the pipe that exits the cat and a straight pipe between them wouldnt work. Most of the aftermarket cats, well, ALL of them that I could find when I was in the market, required a straight connection.

From my parts pile. Right to left from engine to tailpipe.

Sorry for the mess. It is the junk pile. You can see it is not a straight shot from the front to the back. The universal replacement cats I could find required a straight shot (or you could add bends in the pipe).

Honestly that cat is going on my list of ridiculous manufacturer choices because it is offset, cooks the driveshaft, and cooks the frame.

I just recalled that my Davico pipe was about 3/4 inch shorter than stock, too, which pulls everything forward and brings the loop over the axle in contact with the end of a bolt on the rear of the rear axle. When I am at idle it rattles and pisses me off! (reliving it). I've actually pulled on the tail pipe like a cow's tail to temporarily relieve the rattling.

That's it. Next week when I swap the engine I'm putting the spare, factory, pipe on.

Charlie, check this out. Maybe a local muffler shop can do this for me. Scroll down to the pics.

Okay they just angled it with some couplings. That would work.

Update: Rockauto has issued a return/refund slip for the exhaust. They requested pictures and an explanation, which I provided. I also showed them this website and the threads about the product and the shipping unprotected muffler.

I told them if they resolved the issue I would update this thread to show they assisted.

I'll follow up once a refunded is issued. I have to drive the pipes to the nearest FedEx facility which is about 30 minutes away, but I can live with that.
