Welcome.

See https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...scovery-21328/ which is in our Discovery 1 technical area, it also covers D2, and while there you will find a D1 : D2 comparison.

You will also find lists of repairs to be done as a new owner, etc. A full set of factory service manuals is available free for download below.

Here in the US many would love to have a diesel for a variety of reasons, but it does have less power than the V-8 gasoline engines.

As far as a first vehicle, why not? It will test driving and technical skills, consume most of your available time and funds, and take you places you have never been (salvage yard, machine shop, etc.).

Diesels are not as common in the US. Most recent units are gas 3.9, 4.0, and 4.6 liter V-8. If hunting in a particular area, if no listing in our forum's sale area, try www.statewidelist.com, which indexes all of craigslist for a particular state, model "Rover", price range (you decide), individiual or dealer (dealers are last choice). The results list is sorted by city in that state. Some states have 50 -100 Rovers for sale.

if you do the work yourself parts for the drive shaft are under $100.00 and parts for just the head gaskets, new bolts & thermostat are under $300.00.
