Question New Owner Question (Lift Kit)

Hello, I called Simon from RTE to get a quote for a 3" lift on my Disco 2 and he said 6,700$ + shipping ... not even including bushings !!! I was stunned, wanted to ask if this is a normal price tag for the people that got a 3" lift from RTE

a 3" lift kit from OME (springs, shocks, steering damper) including every necessary item like Watts Links, corrected radius arms, disconnected links, cross member spacers, shock towers, rear shock relocation, heavy duty steering rods and panhard etc ... custom made from a fabrication shop came out to be half the price tag.

someone (besides simon) make me understand why the RTE would be worth that much money?

There's so much there that's not even necessary at a 3" lift. For 3" all you need are springs, shocks (or shock tab extensions), extended ABS sensors, and extended brake lines. Castor corrected *front* radius arms are optional, but unnecessary in the rear as there is no steering in the rear.

I wheel hard on 3" lift and that's all I've got, all I need.

Link disconnects are a fairly simple DIY item, I have a write up on it.

Heavy duty steering arms are a good idea, but not necessary. Not a costly upgrade if you're replacing them anyway.

Like Alex mentions...he wheels hard. So, with that in mind...you can over build or under build a Discovery, for sure. What are you looking to do with your Dll? If you are just looking for better clearance and going to use it for mild, to once in a while hard stuff wheeling..then there are plenty of other options. Most lift kits consist of springs, extended shocks, steering stabilizer and that's about it. But if you are building for extreme off roading...then that changes everything.

Wheeled pretty hard with my 01, with three inch lift...and it was fine for daily driving.

Yep 3 D2's here all with 3inch lifts of various brands and configurations and no castor corrected parts whatsoever. I drive em 5MPH to 80MPH with zero issues. 3inch lift on a D2 is the sweet spot IMHO, and heck even on a D1 to be honest.

I will say that RTE does make the best springs IMO and that kit cost has increased quite a bit I believe in the last year or so... if you plan on serious rock crawling and beating on the truck then Simon does make the best stuff imo but yea if just cosmetic or mild wheeling then no that kit is not necessary.

thank you all for giving me a better understanding of what i truly need! That disco with a 4.5" lift is bada$$
My car has 185k miles on it and i am seriously debating if i should do a reman on the engine or if i should do an LS swap, how did you get that LS swap done ? Realistically how much should i expect to pay if i am doing most the work myself?

BTW i ended up ordering some corrected arms, watts links, HD panhard rod and HD steering bar kit because i inted to lift it more in the near future when i do a reman or an LS swap
