The next time someone complains about the reliability of Land Rover...
It's about , design, quality and reliability... LR has been at the bottom of this for years....Not just certain models but as a brand. When LR started there idea to produce simple, cost effective, affordable autos that where easy to fix and get parts was a great concept. Then they stepped on there own Di$k and persued luxury market. Why do you think they have been sold so many times..And from some reports.. it looks as Tata motors has been looking how to unload the brand again....

My next door neighbor is a Jeep freak. He's always trying to keep his two Jeeps on the road and legal. He gave up on one after it sat in the driveway for six months non-running. My Disco has been great. It's a '96 SD, no sunroofs, no jumpseats, none of that crap, but everything still works, even the A/C blows cold. I've driven it on 1,000 mile trips with the family and would do so again. I did have to do the headgaskets at 100K miles, and it leaks a little oil, but I think I got a bargain after 10 - 11 years of ownership. I guess I got one of the good ones out of the thousands of PsOS.
Whoa, I just realized I'm in the wrong forum. I was on vacation last week and it looks like they've split us into two forums, Disco I and Disco II. Oh well, nice talking to you guys. I guess I better move before somebody kicks me out.
LOL DiscoJag. They don't mind us coming over here to see what's up. They understand that because we have less problems with our disco's we need something to do and reading about their problems seems to fill lots of time.
so... in summary - land rovers do not have reliability issues - they just require a lot of maintenance.
seriously, think about it... once you've realized that your head gaskets won't last more than 70kmiles, that the air suspension will need to be replaced or removed after 60k, that the stock driveshaft won't pass 100k, that there are plenty of hydraulics lines to keep in check and that a stock heated windshield will run you over $1k, if you act accordingly with preventive maintenance the truck is a pretty good thing.
