Default Noisey Brakes

My 2001 land rover just got new land rover grade pads but they squeel like a b***h. I've seen that others on here sugest the Akebono ceramic pads, besides changing the pad all together, is there anything else that might be causing the squeel? Braking is smooth and solid, the land rover pads feel great.

squeal is usually caused by the pads vibrating against the caliper. Did you lube the caliper slide pins and lube where the pads contact the caliper?

permatex brake quiet works wonder see if you can fill the red stuff (professional) if not the standard blue grade works fine.
The guide pin are most important you should be able to collapse them by hand and have them spring back.

Did you turn the rotors?

Cheap pads, even when they say they are OEM can squeak.

Dan, you never turn Rover rotors, there was not enough meat on them when new and turning them will just cause them to warp from being undersized.

The pads were done at the dealers so I don't know any details on install. I'm honestly looking at buying the ceramics from my local bap geon auto parts. the current pads make a lot of brake dust, find myself washing the car once a week because the wheels get so dark.

Then take it back to the dealer and tell them to do the job correctly and put some disc brake quite on the pads.

Well, technically you can get the rotors done. Even the rave has specs for a "service limit" of the rotors:

Front disc minimum thickness:
⇒ New 24.9 - 25.1 mm (0.980 – 0.988 in)
⇒ Service limit 22.0 mm (0.866 in)
Rear disc minimum thickness:
⇒ New 12.5 – 12.7 mm (0.492 – 0.500 in)
⇒ Service limit 11.7 mm (0.461 in)

As for noise, it has been said and I'll say it again, did you grease where the pad contacts the caliper?

True, but they always turn out under specs after 1 or 2 cuts, that is where the problem shows up.
And yes, if a dealer did the brake job, there is a 1 year warranty on all work they do.
