Not a Rover Problem - A Honda CR-V Transmission Problem
I know this is our DII forum, but my son has a problem with his 2005 CR-V and I haven't yet found a CR-V forum that's worthwhile. The basics of automatic transmissions are, I think, the same from make to make, but they're unknown to me.
The problem appeared for the first time this morning on his way to work. As he tried to accelerate on the highway entrance ramp the engine revved but the transmission didn't catch. He made it the rest of the 12 miles to work with the symptom happening again once after he got off the highway.
After work this evening the problem was worse. He called me and I drove to where he had stopped and I did a couple laps around the parking lot and it seemed fine. We decided to try getting it to my house and I drove it, with him following in my car. We took the highway, and it drove okay most of the way. Just like this morning it slipped when I was accelerating onto the highway but then it drove normally at freeway speeds the first five miles, then revved to 6000 rpm with no warning as I was cruising along at 65 mph. It did that twice, and then "caught" and drove normally the next three miles to my exit and another mile and a half into my neighborhood. But 50 yards after I turned onto my street it revved again and never did catch. I was able to roll backward (there's a slight incline) and park it safely at the curb where it will stay for the night unless we get lucky when we go try again to get it home in the next half hour.
I'm grateful to have a GREAT Honda shop I've where I've gone for over 20 years (my other car is an Accord). I know them and they know me, and they are not only very good they're also very trustworthy. I'll call in the morning and talk with Randy. I don't know whether or not they work on transmissions there. They may use a transmission shop instead. I didn't want to have it towed there tonight and then have to have it towed to a transmission shop tomorrow.
Anyway, I'm hoping some of you may be knowledgeable about transmissions and be able to give me some idea about what the problem is. And yes, we checked the transmission fluid level and the dipstick showed it full.
Input welcomed. Thanks.
