Default odd radiator hose

hi
i own a d1 and just bought a d2.
i got this d2 for a good price and would like some help/info.
I got it from someone that it over heated on and busted the lower radiator hose coming out of the water pump.
this model compared to the d1 looks to have a bypass hose coming from the upper to the lower?? don't understand the reason for this?? on the lower tie in there is a white cylinder that i think could be a bypass valve.
if so could this fail and bypass the radiator? possible problem for over heating?

also as result to over heating it now has a bad lifter tick and one ever had this problem?

any one have a extra hose around that i can buy also
