Came here to say that this kit is awesome! It's so nice to have a "normal" Tstat in the rover. Temps have been stable at 185º +/- 10º with city/ highway driving here in Cincinnati with 95º ish atmospheric temps and 75%+ humidity.

Also, it was crazy fast shipping.

Thanks Extinct for making this so freaking easy.

Temps have been pretty mild in SFbay but we got our couple days of hot weather to somewhat stress test the inline mod on my D2. Haven't really driven it in temps above 70F prior to this 100F weekend so I almost always saw temps from 174-185. Doing ~80mph on the freeway with A/C at 70F, my truck was reading 188-195F on the UG with ambients 95-101F. Not too shabby! The waterpump and stuff is all new sans the rad which is about 70k miles old at this point. Extremely impressed with the inline mod! Really appreciate the work done to get these kits put together for all of us @Extinct.

I bought this kit and I love it. My only complaint is the paper gaskets are pretty crapy. They eventually react with the RTV and coolant forming a goo around the housing. The reusable gasket that they sell is awesome. I think that gasket should come in the kit, really.

I made a video about the D2 cooling system recently where I talk about it here:

Does the orientation of the hole on the thermostat make a difference? I see a few mentions of having a hard time bleeding air from the system with the mod.

Does not seem to make a giant difference, but up should be better.

Holds temp around 180 all the time. Great product extinct.
This is running down the road, gets to 184-5 while idiling for a while. This is 20* cooler than the original style cooler thermostat

just to add a little context, I’m running a modded 4.6 with porting, cam, full length headers, custom cat-less exhaust, 33s, full rack and bumpers, a heavy wind pushing rig. I’m using a 4 core aluminum rad from eBay. Although I never really had temp issues before switching to the in-line stat, it would run 194-5 on the road, and creep up to 204 at idle. To me this in-line stat is excellent, keeps an honest temp to the actual thermostat.

@Fastercat Do you have a link to that alu rad you're using? I've been looking for one for when its time to replace my plastic tank one.
