Extinct just wanted to give you some good press. As it was said above buy the kit w the upgraded gasket and it's fool proof and simple. This is the second kit I've gotten from you and both trucks benefited greatly from it. I'll continue to promote and praise your product and your effort for the Rover community. The results speak for themselves. Below are my before and after average cruising temps in 100+ degree Las Vegas desert heat.

Hello everyone I have been reading these forums and following the experiences that everyone has had in regards to temps. I have had the same issues with my Land Rover discovery 2 and finally getting to the chance to upgrade to the Extinct thermostat it seems like the way to go either way it’s a lot better of a design than the engineers had to offer. I’m no engineer but as most people say these trucks are DIY and am happy to be learning and following all of you experienced Land Rover owners.

I use my rig basically everyday for most part although I have a range rover I still take discovery out. This mod seems to me one of the best mods I’m looking forward too making

Got my engine button back up with the inline mod. I am stoked to report. 180 driving in the city with no AC. 185 driving in the city with AC. Previously I was running 188 to 194. So a pretty big impact. No leaks.

Install was done with a new radiator, water pump, throttle body heater, and a new fan assembly.

Installed in the thermostat is the 180 tstat the Mr. Gasket orange reusable.

Shout out to the member who referenced the gates hose.

I haven't driven it in almost 10 months.

just did the rocker cover gaskets, oil pump, timing chain, pas pump and new hoses, intake gasket, spark plugs, sai manifold tubes, Juke’s SAI filter upgrade, fuel air filter replacement, got rid of the rusty heater pipes and coolant elbow and even put it all back together with some new bolts and rewrapped some of the disintegrating wiring sheaths to boot.

Started up first try. No codes. god damn I am happy.

Didn’t break 195 driving the thing.

Filled er up and it cost a cool hundred bucks and put air in the tires.

So much work. I have been filthy for the better part of 3-4 weeks now. My wife is happy. I am happy.

Totally worth it.

Time to finish up the D1 now.

I'm just finishing up a radiator replacement/inline mod and I feel like this must be a really dumb question. How does the lower Gates replacement hose to eliminate the splice work? I must be misunderstanding something because the hose at the engine side is a 3 way....
Thanks in advance!

Replaces these three parts:

1. Lower radiator hose to factory thermostat
2. Splice
3. Factory hose from thermostat to four way wye

Circled red hose is replaced by gates hose

Pros/cons of gates vs splice
  1. Pros
    1. Less connections, less leak points
    2. More commonly available than LR factory spider hose which is frequently only available as an assembly.
  2. Cons
    1. You probably already have the factory hoses
    2. Even if you are buying new factory hoses, you can keep your old ones as spares
    3. You can't get rid of the spider assembly even if you do buy the gates hose
    4. Increased cost for install based on 1 and 3

That makes more sense. I don’t have the plastic coupling and the whole thing is one piece. I’m perfectly happy with the splice and really appreciate your putting this kit together for us. Thank you!

Just got done with my install, topped off while running, revved to 2k rpm, went for a test drive and she stayed at 199 for most of the drive but crept up to 208 after going up a Long Hill. Parked it at home and left the hood open to cool off walked back by and saw this.
