Inline thermostat with severe duty fan clutch is almost working too well now that its winter the coolant runs between 166-176F. Do I need to swap back to heavy duty fan clutch for winter or run the 190F thermostat or both?

@gecko951 Mine ran fine that way all last winter - no codes. You may need the hotter thermostat if you start getting codes.

2003 or 2004 will throw codes for low temperature, but a 2002 shouldn't.

- Extinct's inline thermostat
- 2991 Hayden sever duty clutch installed this summer
- Dorman fan blade
- New Nissens installed in spring
- Coolant level looks great
- SAI

We had a cold winter spell this week. Running the truck all day. Ambient around 40 to 46-deg F today. Coolant temp typically in the 168 to 174-deg F range. I just started getting the P0126 code today. The Ultragauge has also showed a slight drop in gas mileage.

The Hayden 2991 Severe Duty is great for the summer to keep temps down, especially when under load or offroading. I am thinking perhaps of switching back to the 2781 Standard Duty for the winter. Anyone tried this and can share your experiences... or anything else to fix the P0126?

Thanks!

Are you throwing the P0126 code on start up or after the engine has warmed up?
If it's at startup, you can put a radiator muff on to keep the cold air out of the radiator until the engine is at temp.

It started happening today. I will have to observe and keep track of when this happens.

I did not realize a radiator muff is an option. I just did some research and see that they are available from the UK. Thanks for the suggestion.

Installed the inline kit this afternoon. The disassembly of the OEM cooling system was the hardest part. Gashed my hands a couple of times while breaking the hoses loose from the adapters.

Looking forward to see where my temps end up. So far it's been running in the 206 to 210 range with temps in the 30's and 40's.

Looks like I have a drip between the t-stat housing. Thought it was the nipple so added more pipe tape and retighten. Would the thermostat not being aligned properly cause a leak? Using the reusable gasket.

Yes, same thing happened to me. Gotta have the t-stat perfectly centered on the gasket.

Any better(cheaper) shipping options avail, than on the website?
I know I'm behind a lot of water, but 60 dollars for shipping feels a bit steep...

@Dervish I doubt you will get any cheaper shipping, weight and parcel size are the issue along with fuel surcharges. But you could ask if he can ship US Postal - it will slow though
