New top hat engine 20K miles ago, new everything. Coolant level rock steady. Your kit. I do get a "gurgle" occasionally, a short waterfall sound.

I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like you may still have an air bubble in your system.

Normal thermal mass effect. You are on the highway using 20hp worth of fuel, 2500 rpm, coolant is flowing, pistons are hot, cylinder heads are hot, exhaust manifolds are hot, etc. You hit a stop light and the water pump goes to 700 rpm, airflow across the radiator drop to about 15mph (I have measured it) from 60-70. Temp spikes a little. Nothing concerning.

I just order the inline system and solar setup. I will be rebuilding my 04 Discovery hse. Headgasket and check heads and new hoses valve cover gaskets and relocating the coilpacks since it's apart and new alternator bracket and some pulleys. And the inline system. Then I'll be updating the suspension as it's now 12 yrs old. Thx for this thread and @Extinct for the experience and sharing. Can't wait to remove the nasty in the picks.

Holy cow! I think a relative of your previous owner was related to my previous owner😬😬 what a mess. Will be super satisfying to repair and replace all that!
The inline kit dropped my temp but also during my head gasket replacement, it made draining and bleeding so much easier!
I think most of us would recommend the green coolant, like Prestone. If you previously had orange coolant, make sure you flush it out well, as the 2 types don’t mix.

Agreed. I flushed mine twice with hose water and twice with distilled water before putting in the new coolant. Using a kiddie pool to catch the coolant makes the job much easier as does putting a worm clamp on the lowest radiator hose and using the right lower water pump bolt to drain the coolant. I installed the inline kit without the thermostat, then filled the coolant via the expansion tank, ran the engine for a couple of minutes, then drained. Rinse, repeat. Made the job super easy and I completely flushed it and filled with new coolant within a couple of hours. Biggest issue was getting the old coolant and water from the kiddie pool into jugs for recycling.
