Oil cooler install success stories anyone?
I think this is the case, some have them, some do not.
You need to install a temp gauge and measure before and after and see a significant temperature difference to make sure that the valve works as intended. I guess some say it works fine, probably because they never measured and compared the oil temps.
Use the trans cooler if you can, there will not be a pressure drop issue and it will cool slightly better. I helped a forum member with his install, he had 04 and did not use the sandwich adapter, before the install we confirmed he had all the pressure relief bits in this front cover (he had purchased a used spare just in case).
On my 00 oil temp runs about 15 degrees above ECT.

Back over here for the oil cooler project. I have a used factory oil cooler to use and appears to be fine from the outside. Doing a quick google and it appears cleaning the inside can be easy or super DONT DO IT! Anyone have thoughts on this? I was going to run degreaser through it several times, rinse and dry. The google says this might cause all types of problems. How hard and dangerous is it really?
@dswilly same as rad cleaning you could clog the passages. I suggest:
- Getting some citrus degreaser regular household stuff
- get thing to plug the exit hole
- Stand the cooler up on end
- pour the degreaser in until it starts exit then plug the exit
- Pour some more in until it overflows
- leave it for 15 minute or so
- boil some water
- Unplug the bottom and pour the boiling water through
- Finally mix the degreaser with boiling water and pour through a couple of times
- Then just a couple of pots of water
- Let it dry for a day or so and you should be good.
