I see that now on RA. Funny it did not show on my first search. I wonder if there is a quality difference on these things.

Yeah I looked on Rock Auto before I posted my reply. They're 246.79 USD and show in stock. They also list oil pump kit for 31.79 which is the new oil pump gears and gaskets.

I personally haven't had an oil pump die on any of my LR's. I think it comes down to oil change schedule & oil used.

So got in to this today. All went well except for the fan bolt, that thing was a bear. Once I got to the oil pump I was disappointed that it was not broken. Would have been easier to point blame if it was. I did notice some scoring on the housing. Does this look bad enough cause a problem?
The last photo is of a small bushing that showed up in a plastic bin I was cleaning parts in . The parts that went into the bin were the oil pan, front cover, water pump and pick up tube. Anyone recognize this?

That bushing came from the valve cover gasket, found its way to the oil pan. The scoring is not your problem. How did the pickup tube o-ring look? What about the pickup screen?

Good to know on the bushing, whew. So the scoring does not look bad? The o ring do not look great and appeared to be covered in RTV like someone either tried to mend it or added it as extra precaution. The screen has some stuff but is not sludge filled. So should reuse this cover with the new oil pump or put it back together as it was?

Did you inspect the bypass valve in the cover? Dont forget to pack the oil pump gears with vasoline to avoid a dry start.

Personally, l'd not reuse that cover...and l'd be pulling a rod cap to inspect bearing.
