New Oil Pressure Gauge
Installed a Cyberdyne digital oil pressure gauge yesterday. My 03' Disco (in bad vin range)
Mileage 51k
Cold Start Idle 51-52 psi
Cold Start Idle @ 2K rpm 55 psi
Operating Temperature Idle 24 psi
Oper. Temp Idle @ 2K rpm 51 psi
I had the extra stock plug on the oil pump tapped as posted in this forum. My sending unit does not permit use of teflon tape as it grounds itself to the block. I like the feature of dialing in a low pressure reading. I dialed in 8 psi as my warning.
Over all time was about 2 hours by myself... a novice. It was pretty straight forward thanks to the directions and grocery list of parts. I recommend any one w/a Disco to invest in an oil pressure gauge as I should have done it sooner. So far I've been fortunate... finger's crossed as I continue w/ ownership.

Sounds good, how about a pix? IMHO I would set the low alarm point a little higher. As an example, Mercedes oil gauges are in "bar", and it is normal to idle at 1 bar or just a hair under. So 12 - 15 PSI. I guess I would want to know well before 8. We've had two recent posts, one that needed 4 quarts to refill, another with no oil on the stick, but no oil light on, engine now noisy. You are correct to keep the Mark 1 eyeball on this device.
I have a 2004 disco. Has lifter noise. 1 maybe 2. been ongoing for at least 1 year. I put BC oil cleaner and drove for 60 mi and changed the oil from 5/30 to 10 /30 and the lifter noise improved about 50%. Do I continue doing the same process. do I check the oil pump pressure. Do I replace the lifters. the Vehicle has not lossed any performance. an help would be appreciated
Just wanted to share with you guys my gauge pod build. I didn't like the look or fit of the gauge pod I purchased from Summit so I fiberglassed my own. Pretty easy to do and definitely fits better. By the way, I set the low PSI warning at 12.
I removed the A-pillar and covered it with Saran wrap so I could remove the pod after the resin dried. Then I used fiberglass resin and mat to make a form of the a pillar. I trimmed the plastic gauge pod down to a close fit and then glassed over it overlapping the A-pillar piece. That way the gauge pod mounts without screws by sliding over the A-pillar.
I still need to fill some areas with Bondo body filler and repaint. I think I'm going to paint it black instead of tan. Here are some photos of the test fit...
Also, I used a 30 amp relay to wire the gauge off of the headlight circuit. While I was at it, I ran a single 10 gauge power wire from the battery through the grommet where the hood release cable is routed and installed an auxiliary fuse panel under the dash. That way all of my accessories are run independently from the vehicle wiring. I have heard too many horror stories of electrical gremlins showing up after tapping the vehicle wiring. Good luck.
