Default Oil Shaft Seals

I try to be a good Disco II owner; I really do. I gave myself a migraine yesterday figuring out what bolts to get for the crossmembers, finding them in grade 8, and ordering them.

Today I am looking for axle shaft seals. I am replacing my hubs and while I have it open I want to do what I can. Here is a picture of the seal (in the middle) from my buddy's truck:

The part is #6 on this diagram.

Is it the same part for front and back? Here is a front one. AB has them, too, but I see nothing listed for the back. Any ideas? Are they the same front and back? I see a diagram for the back but it does not have any such oil seal. Is that possible?

THis is the seal that goes around the axle shaft

You are correct, no oil seal. It is sealed by #2 in the diagram an "O" ring. Id you have the RAVE go to the rear hub cross section where it's shown clearer . It's easier to fit than the front seals but requires some hub stripping. They tend to leak after about 10 years and 100K miles.

Perfect; I wasn't missing anything then. Thanks, ORFRANCE!

O-Ring in back and seals up front. When I replaced my rear diff I had to pull the axles so I replaced the o-rings. They are only $0.95 so I ordered extra as spares.

With the front seals you will once again find a seal puller to be your best friend. If you haven't bought one yet Charlie you must enjoy spending extra time with your Disco
