Alright ill take your word and take a look for any rust or lose connections. and what about the code not showing up unless i touch the high/low shifter? Seems like the code should come on always no matter what and stay on but it has not come back since i cleared it and has not come back since last time i touched the shifter which was a few weeks ago. I wonder if there is a lose connection near the linkage or something. Not sure what to look for down there though considering how far up in the vehicle it is...

Personally I would just wait until it comes back to before you do anything. I had that code once as you know and that was about a year ish ago? And it has not come back. Just my $.02

Trying to squeeze my issues together in same thread to save space so here is an update and more questions:

So these are the re-occurring codes I'm getting
Pending codes: P0501, P0150, P1171, P1174
Check engine code: P1415

These are the symptoms:
- RPM's are running a little bit higher than they should be and it seems as though my Disco needs more pressure on the gas to pick up highway speeds and for hill climbs.

- Transfer Case linkage is rough. I can engage low range but lately I have not been able to engage the CDL. I have lubricated the linkage twice since I first purchased the truck and I have been able to engage the CDL in the past.

- When HDC is activated it works BUT the green illuminated light continuously flashes and the audio beeps repeatedly until the function is disabled.

- Recently asked about a strange but completely random "unwinding" sound that could be heard from underneath the vehicle while in operation, but I believe I solved that mystery. I think that's the Traction Control working. Ive heard it while pulling out of my ice covered driveway onto the main road. Stepped on the gas and the TC light came on and I heard the unwinding sound. I hope that's normal.

Yesterday I changed the transmission fluid and filter. The drained fluid was clean with a nice red color to it. The pan was pretty clean save a very small buildup around the magnet. No noticeable metal pieces found and the old gasket appeared to be in good shape be it was dirty on the outside. Replaced all the gaskets nevertheless. Went through all the gears several times, than I re-checked the fluid level and added as needed. Drove her to work today and did not notice any difference in vehicle operation, but also did not notice anything bad either. But while I was down there I spotted a leak in the silencer (muffler) along the fold line on the side of it. So is it possible that some of these symptoms could be caused due to a leak in the muffler? Could a leak in the muffler trigger codes? I ask before someone suggested I replace my 02 sensors.

Tomorrow I plan on replacing the transfer case fluid. While on the subject, what exactly is the purpose of the transfer case in my D2? Aside from allowing me to lock the center differential and allowing me to engage low range. Does the TC have any function during normal vehicle operation? And could a TC with old worn out fluid cause any of my symptoms?

ALSO do I really need to replace the transfer case cover screws if I decide to remove the cover plate? I was hoping to inspect the gears inside and add rtv sealant to the perimeter of the plate. I have not noticed any leaks but I want to be on top of everything BUT I dont have the money right now for new cover plate screws..... or should I just leave the plate on for now, drain fluid and add new? Im doing this job today so Im hoping I can get some quick feedback. Thanks so much everyone!

just drain it and refill it, Honestly what do expect to gain by opening the transfer case?
A bunch of gears unless you know what your looking for, just look at the pictures in the book.
