Default Pinion help

I have a 2003 LR D2. I’m replacing the rear driveshaft for a Tom woods shaft. On upgrading the pinion, I’m trying to torque the pinion retaining bolt to 74 Ft lbs but it appears too tight. The pinion needs a lot of force to rotate and a lifted wheel need excess force to move. Anyone else encounter this? I think I’m going to relighted the retaining nut to the point the tire and pinion rotate more normally. The ideal fix is pulling everything apart and redoing the backlash. Thoughts or suggestions?

That's weird. These differentials don't have a crush sleeve so the interface between the pinion and ring shouldn't change. Torque should be 95 ft.-lbs. Are you sure there isn't any interference happening somewhere in the system? Sounds like the new yoke might be dragging on the bearing race.

I figured it out. The pinion upgrade kit had a dust cover that was binding on torquing the pinion retaining bolt/screw. I removed the cover and all is well.

Relatively easy install.
