Question Please help me identify this noise! (see video)

Hello all-

I have been trying to diagnose this noise for a while now (see attached video). Any help would be much appreciated!

2003 D2, 183k miles. I just finished a 1600 mile trip, Phoenix->Vegas->LA->Joshua Tree->Phoenix, car performed perfectly, noise only started right as I got back into Phoenix.

Other facts:
  • Did wheel shake/spins on front wheels, bearings seem fine to me (no wiggle, no noise when spun)
  • Greased drive shaft (Lucky8 driveshaft, installed about 30k miles ago)
  • Light visual inspection of wheels/brakes/etc didn't show anything obvious like a rock stuck or something like that.
  • Brakes were done about 5k miles ago, no squeaks from them.
  • Noise starts at about 5mph, happens in drive and neutral. Seems to change with wheel speed.
  • Doesn't seem to change when turning left or right.
  • No shaking at any speed, only noise.

I appreciate your expertise!

On farm equipment I would be looking for metal rubbing metal that normally doesn't. Like something rubbing against a PTO but barely.

Subscribed so I can hear the resolution. Sorry I am not more help. You have checked the things that come to mind for me.

I always suspect driveshaft, whether new or not, with a rotational noise like that under the front/middle of a D2. I'd lock CDL remove front driveshaft. See if goes away. Do you have CDL?

I was burned once by my heavy duty Tom Woods whatever blah blah expensive driveshaft with graeasable joints that failed catastrophically in 6000 miles on the highway, I never even took it offroad.. It was making noise and I ignored it, so my fault but I thought since it was new there would be no chance. And arrived unbalanced, but that’s another issue altogether.
