Default Possible to replace airbag springs without removing wheel?

I'm currently up at college and do not have a lot of tools to work with. One of my airbags just went out and I need to replace it. My mechanic recently mounted and balanced a new set of tires, and because of the historical issue with the lug nuts being pieces of ****, I won't be able to take them off without a breaker bar and don't feel like buying new ones just yet. So, I'm hoping to be able to change the airbag out without having to remove the tire. Is this possible?

Thanks

According to the manual, you must remove the wheel.

Let me look under my truck tomorrow. I doubt it, but I guess it's possible that it could be done. I'll update in the morning (as long as I remember).

IMO it is impossible or near impossible to access the pressure airline fitting. You can try but I'm sure you will hit major snags and give up. Why not just buy a new set of lug nuts?

There is nothing wrong with the lug nuts it's mostly to do with the idiots who abuse them and don't torque them correctly.

The only problem I've ever experienced was with the security nut where some tire fitting drongo used an air impact wrench on it instead of releasing it first with a normal breaker bar. He was, as it transpired, an 18 year kid learning to change tires

Not only will you not be able to get at the Air line connection, but you won't be able to get at the 2 clips retaining the top of the spring. so wheel must come off.

I would also suggest that you change both air springs as they are likely the same age and the other one is probably close to the end of its life as well.

X1 .......... All good advice, the airsprings are probably the originals fitted and should be replaced every 5 years and at the very most 10 years. I believe RAVE states 5 years and BOTH airsprings should be replaced simultaneously. Read the section in RAVE which is specific on rear SLS suspension and it is quite categoric.

Hi

Thanks for all the perspectives guys. My only issue with replacing the lugnuts is that they seem extremely expensive (~$40 each). But, I turned the car on, the airbags re-inflated, and it's all back to normal with absolutely zero leak. Hoping it's just a quirk and not a true leak, but regardless I'll keep a close eye on it.

Where are you erick846? In the States? Lug nuts are $109 from Amazon.com for 20, Part Nş. ANR3679. At $40 the ones you have mentioned would need to be at least gold plated!
