Default Power Steering Pump

So, I just changed my power steering pump and all went well. Wasn't too bad of a job. The groan sound is completely gone, but it is still a little tight. I have flushed out the reservoir 3 times and refilled. I have turned the wheels back and forth numerous times. Any other advice?

I believe you need to drain and use synthetic or you'll ruin your new pump.

EDIT: Believe I was thinking of brake fluid as far as needing to be synthetic, however it is generally agreed that synthetic fluid should be used in the PS system as well....probably wont "ruin" your pump, but may shorten the life. See following thread:

There are plenty of ps pumps running plain ps fluid. ATF works also. Keeping it clean is key.

i was thinking as long I keep it clean that it would be fine. What about the tightness? Will that work out over time?

Not sure about the tightness. Did you try bleeding the steering box using the nipple on top of it? How many miles on the truck? Are all of the steering components in good shape?
