Default Power steering pump has play in pully

Hey gang,
Thanks for the help with my belt issue over a week ago. Apparently I have found why the last belt broke. The power steering pump works, but when I put the new belt on, it jumped a bead from the PS pully. I removed the belt again and found that the PS pully has play in it. The shaft can move forward and back as much as a half inch or about 12 mm for you metric folk.

Any clue why this is happening? A retainer ring inside or bearing slipped? Any repair thoughts other than PS replacement? It's an "02" Disco II.

I caught threads on what else to replace when replacing the pump, but is this going to be a hastle to replace? Not a novice with tools for sure.

TIA

Default RE: Power steering pump has play in pully

The was another p/s pump issue a week or so back, in his case, he had the whole shaft come out. I would say you have the same issue and your pump is probably not long for this world. Be care and keep an eye on it, if it fails, it can cause some bigger expense.
