my wife drove the truck home from work with a "loud noise and hard steering " upon arrival it began to leak big time. The reservior is at minimum level. It looks like the leak is coming form the larger hose that connects under the box. Is my pump dead or is it air locked and i need to replace the hose. the hose on the bottom of pump is leaking. I forgot to mention i have an 03 disco.

 

are you sure it is the hose, mind started leaking in the gasket between the two halves

 

i added lucas stop and leak and started up car. all manuel steering --is it the pump or the box

 

I'm sure Mike will respond soon, but you still need to find out EXACTLY where it's leaking, the hose, the pump, or maybe a loose fitting. Best not to drive this untill it's fixed....dangerous for you and could make repairs worse.

 

the hose that goes straight up and meets the pump at its base is the location of the leak. it acually looks like it is leaking where two parts of the pumps joins eachother. But the hose looks good. If it is the hose it is possibly leaking from the clamp under pressure. Like i said i have only manuel steerring at this point.

 

If the pump is leaking between the halves,remove the pump. Spilt the front and back apart,remove whats left of the print-o-seal gasket,clean and sand the gasket surfaces,CLEAN the inside and outside of he pump with brake clean,dry, apply a thin layer of gray stiff RTV silicone to one pump halve,reassemble the pump using lock tight on the bolts.Let the pump set overnight,then reinstall.
