Default preemptive oil pump gear change?

I have a touch over 107k miles on my '03 and it is in the vin range listed as a potential oil pump alignment issue. I have toyed around with the idea of changing the oil pump gears as a preemptive strike before I have a problem, its oil pressure readings are 14 psi at hot idle and 52psi at hot 2000 rpm. I feel the numbers are fine, Im always a bit hesitant to take it on long interstate trips do to the nagging thought of this thing blowing out its gears and leaving us stranded with 4 little kids on the side of a busy interstate. Any thoughts on the wisdom of messing with something that is running fine? I would think with a fresh set of gears I would be good for another 107K?

Good pressure numbers, no strange noises, and many of those vehicles failed much earlier in life. I'd say save for the vacation. There are any number of other things that can leave you stranded, in the Rover or anything else. There have been recent posts about oil pumps that show pix of what you can expect if you open it up.

As mentioned, your landrover has numberous other items that could fail leaving you stranded. I also have had the same mind set on the Crank sensor, Cam Sensor, Oil Pump you see where I'm going. You could rebuild your engine and have a failure of you gearbox.

Your pressures are very good and I believe if you had the misalignment of the front cover to block that it would have crapped out on you by now.

Keep it well lubed, install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and temp gauge and drive on.

It does tick and rattle at hot idle but,it is putting out 14psi oil pressure so I really believe the liners are moving abit making the noise.

Here is my oil pump rebuild:

As far as the noise, people that are rover crazy have taken every bloody part out of these engines. Put them back together and STILL HAVE HAD THE "NOISE, TICK, RATTLE, CRANK" I go through periods of this myself. I replaced my lifters and it didn't make noise for 2,000 miles well recently it started making noise again. DAMN Its just the fact of realizing (at least with mine) its a project rover.

Im not too concerned with the noise, I don't think it is related at all to oil pump. What did the gears look like in your pump?

. What kind of oil pressure did you have? Any oil light on?

I didn't check the oil pressure before hand.

I had a severe oil leak a the front cover somewhere, so I opted to replace the oil pump, timing chain, cams and water pump while replacing the gasket. My discovery of the cracked gear was somewhat of a surprise. Never experienced an oil light.

So far, the project is going smooth- far easier than expected. I'm grateful to have pursued this sooner than later.
