Default Pressure in crank case during oil change? PCV?

Hello All. I have an 2002 Disco II, all stock. 4.0 liter, 100k miles

I changed the oil recently, and the plug practically shot out while i was ratcheting. Then the filter had a bit of pressure release as well.

Oil in crank case appeared normal after draining.

I read online PCV valves can cause crank case pressure?

I Went to local Schucks, they don't have a PCV in their system for a for This Rover?

My plan was to swap PCV valve out, see if pressure goes away, if not I will need to figure out what else it may be.

Thanks All

It doesn't have a valve per se but, it does have an oil separator that can clog. Its in passenger side valve cover and should pull out with needle nose pliers for a good cleaning.( thats what people say I could not get mine out any way I tried) Try unhooking the hose that goes from this valve cover to the intake, from the intake side try to blow through the hose and if you cannot the oil separator may be clogged.

What he said.
If you do not take care of this you WILL have gasket problems.

If you can't pull it out you can squirt some carb cleaner down thru it.

Thats what I did and I was able to blow air through it somewhat easily, it is quite a small hole.

Ok so what if there is no 'oil seperator" in the valve cover??? is that a bad thing ????

see Oil Separator - Valve Cover (LLJ000010 Same Fit As Genuine Part # LLJ000010) - Land Rover miscellaneous from Atlantic British

see attached page from RAVE emmissions. Item 10 is where the separator is. That side is vacuum to the plenum, without the separator, oil splatter may be drawn into the plenum. The big problem comes when both of these hoses are closed with gunk, a slight pressure builds where things are not built for it, and gaskets and seals can leak. Should clean out separator and both those hoses (left and right).

If you don't have a separator, seems like you will be making more oil get burned in engine.

if you have no oil seperator you can suck oil into the throttle body

If you still have a pressure issue after cleaning the oil separator then you might have a bad ring and a compression test, possibly a leak down test would be warranted.

Ok, Thanks everyone. Sounds like something I can take care of before the big game. This forum is hard to beat.
