Long time visitor to the forum, first time posting. Thank you all in advance.

I have a 2003 Discovery 2. Got the error code for my bank one o2 sensor. So today, I finally had some time to try and replace it. Already got the Bosch replacement. So, removing the o2 sensor itself was quite easy, easier than expected. Two seconds bam, Done!. Then I try to remove the wire and it's not budging. I'm squeezing the clip with all my might, pulling and nothing. So I work it out so that I can mess with it from the top of the engine bay, just to get a better look. Man... I tried everything and cannot disconnect this clip!! Now, granted I have big hands so I didn't have much space to work in (top or underneath) but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that hard to release the clip.

So questions. Is there something I can do to help it release? I tried with a flat tip screwdriver and nothing. Also, is splicing the new sensor to the old clip a viable option?

I'd be grateful for any help or suggestions. I do most of my own work on my baby and this seems like a minor major inconvenience that I should be able to take care of on my own.

I believe you have to lift the clip?
If I remember correctly I I used a long screwdriver to lift it while pulling down on it from underneath?
As you can't get 2 hands up there.

 

Tried lifting it. Feel like it's almost fused together. No clue how long the o2 sensor was on this car as I am the 3rd owner and seems like the other two did nothing with the car.

 

Had the same trouble with mine. IIRC, press down on the lever part while pulling the plug out. Good luck.

 

It's crazy how difficult it can be to unplug some of the connectors. I slid mine off the little bracket it sits on and pulled it out from behind the engine so I could get both hands on it. I've left it zip tied and out of the way so that it doesn't have any chance of contacting the exhaust manifold.

 

I just replaced my O2 sensor yesterday - you definitely must push the tab then pull the connector down. No tools needed on mine, just my thumb. :-)

 

I had the exact same thing happen .it works backwards from common sense . The connector from the plug side is attached to a metal clip. Don't try to pull this down . Instead push the tab and pull the other end up.
