Default Purge Valve/MAF swap question

Been dealing with a slight fuel smell and P0450 code for a few weeks and took it to my indy who told me that whenever you swap out a new MAF or Purge Valve part (which I did), the car's computer needs to be "recalibrated" with a software update form LR. He's telling me its $89 for the software update...

I've never heard of this, but wanted to get a second opinion

Thanks guys!

I never did it when I did my purge valve, just cleared the codes and was all good.

So you swapped out the purge valve and then noticed the fuel smell/P0450? Or the other way around? I ask because I am swapping out my purge valve soon.

I got the code for the purge valve first- swapped it out and then a few days later noticed the smell...I DID use the Hyundai compatible part ($30 compared to $100) then cleared the code only to have it come back- I am going to change out my gas cap next (original) FWIW...

I used the hyundai part as well, only because there wasn't an aftermarket bosch version available(there is now). It worked without issue or reset.
