Default Is rear air conditioning a big deal

The 2000 Discovery II we are looking at purchasing does not have rear air conditioning. Will the front air conditioning cool the back of the truck or will this be a problem?

I run a Disco II with front air only in Bangkok and find that temperature is not a problem normally (usually 35 degrees here, more in traffic), even with 7 seats occupied. However I am considering fitting the rear aircon unit if I can find a good used one and decide its worth the work simply to improve air distribution to those in the back seats.

Where do you live? I have done lots of driving in death Valley with front air only and it does a great job. How often will you be carrying people in the second or 3rd. rows?

We live in Oklahoma where it gets extremely hot in the summer....but not as bad as DEATH VALLEY. The other Discovery we have driven had the back seat air and it was a pretty significant difference. But thank you for the confirmation that it can work with just the front air.

I'd recommend it. Our '04 has it and it sure makes a difference here in 'Big D' in cooling down the truck more quickly when it's 107 outside...

Do you have a large family, a Taxi srvice, just kidding, how often are you running with people in the rear of the truck. The back will never feel like the front w/o the rear a/c but it does restrict some of the rear space, so is it worth it????
Good luck.

We do have a family of six...so there will be a lot of passengers in the back seat a lot of the time. We did purchase the vehicle - 2000 Discovery II and we love it. The air has been more than adequate for the back seat passengers and we have had 105 degree heat this week. WE LOVE OUR DISCOVERY.

Have dual A/C system. Very helpful on the hot summer days at the Jersey shore. Like the fact that I can turn down the blower on the front and allow the back to have it's own setting.
