Default rear driveline bushing

Really.....what is the purpose of the bushing for the flex coupling ?? And does it need to be replaced when you change the flex coupling ?? I have read that some members do not replace this item . Is that an issue ?? I'm replacing mine , because it has a crack in the rubber , and could be a disaster down the road .

I didn’t replace mine, but I can’t say if that’s a recommended procedure.

Do you mean the bushing sitting in the drive shaft? It wears down and then the drive shaft has lateral play, knocking metal on metal. Check for play.

@Tomzsix Yes, side by side. Wiggle the drive shaft at the flex coupling up and down or left and right. You can hear it knocking if it has play. Here is how got the bushing out and the new in: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...77/#post795972

So, as per Discorama , I tried to wiggle rear drive line . Besides gear lash , it seemed pretty solid . The only reason in why I wanted to change rubber coupling , was that my shop said that it had a tear in it , and should be replaced . Is it even worth the sweat to replace coupling over a tear ??

The rubber couplings wear and need to be replaced from time to time. They’re not expensive or hard to replace. A special socket is very helpful but not entirely necessary.
