you might want to rethink those STI wire mine only lasted about 18-months
I'm about to change my ignition coils and and probaly will remove my intake manifold, question is, once the IM is pushed out of the way is it easy to remove the coils? Thanks. I'll post pics when I'm done with this.

It's been about 8-9 months since I've replaced my wires with the IM still attached. If the IM is out of the way, even by a few inches, you'll have a good amount of room to work in. I will say that the next time I have to replace wires or the coils, I will be removing the IM. Was a PITA to work around it.

It was not worth the fight to me. Remove the im. It's just a few hours either way. Just replace my plug wires after wire 5 went bad.

Thanks for the post- It was a great help!!!!
Just did my wires with the im on -
My 2 cents.
Get band aids
Just move as much as you can out of the way as directed above-
That steel pipe with the double end is not coming out so just disconnect both sides and move it up to get some room for your hand to go in.
Wear a headlamp
Use the Bent screw driver to get the wires off the coil with your fingers helping -
Use just fingers to put them back on - Just go by feel and the "got it" click -
Pull all the wires off the coil
Work your way up from the bottom- lower row of 4 first- Follow the routing, the way the wires go up and over each other is important
Its not that scary once you feel the coil and realize all the inputs are accessible.
Save your money -
Champion Copper Plus Spark Plug RN11YC .
Forget the double copper RN11yCC- They suck- Runs a little meaner with the reg RN11YC-
Forget the over sized magnacores - We don't have race cars here- Don't be silly unless you think the shiny bright orange wires will impress your girlfriend.
Go with the IGN 790 Kingsborne Spark Plug Wires Ignition Wire Set - $30.
You need to order ahead for the shipping time out.
Get the 7 mm- Its okay- really- They will fit into the wire holders that are on the car-
Why the make the install harder and spend more $$
Also the Kingsborne come numbered for easy install - very helpful
If you have a bad coil ---------pull the IM
My 2 cents
Do it- its only 3 hours laying on a towel with a step stool

The bent screwdriver is a great trick. It worked well for me when I changed wires recently.

I also found that a small bent circlip pliers made taking off the top row of wires very easy. Something like these: https://www.cromwell.co.uk/images/pr...86560K_1_2.jpg

You can open the pliers and wedge them in the L-shape of the wire with the tip of the pliers pointing toward the firewall. Then with the L in the crook of the pliers, just pry toward you and it should come off without much trouble.

changed the plugs with the plenum removal last weekend. had a bitch of a time getting the plenum back into place. but once you get it into place, its good. otherwise, pretty straightforward. here's a question- there was residual oil in all parts of the intake plenum, what causes that?

Residual oil? That seems odd. If you're talking about just black carbon buildup, that's pretty normal. Could your oil separator in the PCV hose connected to the passenger's-side valve cover be broken/disintegrated? I'm not sure.

I suppose im luckier than all of you. My girlfriend is a mechanic In training at Universal Technical Institute. With her tiny hands she did this whole thing without removing anything besides the wires in under 2 hours.

Without removing any Rover parts, I assume you mean ...

Was that wrong?

Replaced my wires recently. I used the help of a needle nose pliers wth the end that turns 90 degrees. No reason to remove the IM at all. Would have been done in an hour if I didn't break the plastic nipple on the IM.
