If she's going to be off-roading it a lot, I'd say a D1. It's built more for off-roading than the DII is.
Better protected CV joints.
Cheaper hub rebuild/repacking if contaminated with water.
Recessed door handles.
No air suspension though that can be upgraded to coil springs on the DII.
Less rear overhang.
Full floating axles.
