Default Rubber seals at the engine block

While I was checking on some coolant leak under the engine, I noticed one of the rubber seals, located at where the engine attaches to the transmission, was not installed properly. The rubber seals are roughly 1.5" in diameter. So I pulled it out and now I am having hard time putting it back in. Does anyone know what these rubber seals are for? How to put them back in?

They keep mud and crap out of the flywheel. They also swell up if exposed to oil. Mine are long gone. I would look for some at the junkyard or I think ab has them. Figure out that coolant leak first!

Just insert one side in and work your way around the hole inserting it. I dont remember using any tool. AB have them for few bucks just search for rubber plug.

Searched for rubber plug but couldn’t find it on AB.
Is it ok not to put it on?

I'd put them back. Call Lucky 8, they should be able to help you out. I wouldn't want a stray rock flying up in there.
