I have a 2003 Discovery with 65000 miles and today the service engine soon light came on. What does the light indicate.

The light bindicates that one or more of the sensors in your vehicle has detected a abnormal reading. This can be extremely minor, or fairly significant. Take your car to a dealer or a car parts store and have them read the codes from the OBD2 system. Once you have a list of fault codes post them here and someone will give you a pretty good explanation. It is usually no sweat.

go by autozone or something similar, they will read your codes for free. It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap. Post the codes on here and we'll help you out.

So the service engine soon light is the same as check engine light.

On any of the D2's if the light comes on, you have a problem and need to check into it ASAP. So go get yours checked today and get back to use with all the fault codes.

P0300 is random/multiple cylinder misfire detected.
P0306 is cylinder 6 misfire detected. ( this is the third cylinder, starting from the front, on the right side)
If you haven't had a change of spark plugs and plug wires this would be a good start.
May I suggest Magnacore wires and Bosch platinum spark plugs.
If you plan to change the wires yourself, it is tough to do it without removing the
upper intake manifold ( you need small hands ).
