Hey guys I have this problem with my shifter where when I go to shift into reverse it doesn't line up with the letters and you have to sorta jiggle it around until it shifts hard into reverse and it shifts hard most times while driving and giving me a small kick when I take the foot off the gas while accelerating. Any idea what it could be? Thanks

 

How long since you serviced the transmission, and checked that it was filled correctly with the engine running?

 

Well I did have to out a used transmission in it about march 2018 but it has not been serviced since it was put in, and honestly it seemed to be like that sorta then so I might just need a new transmission.

Is the transmission supposed to be serviced way more than that? Or do you think the used transmission was broken when I put it in?

 

If it was installed and serviced correctly in 2018, then no, you probably don’t need way more service. But if it’s shifting really hard, then something’s not right. As mentioned above, first step is to check that it is full. Engine running, trans in P, and pull the fill plug and see if you get some fluid spillage. If not, pump some in until you do and then see where you stand.

 

Ok will do 👍 , how do I know it's full? Just when it starts to leak over the plug?

 

Yes, when it starts to overflow with the engine running.
Make sure you reinstall the fill plug before you shut off the engine, otherwise a lot of fluid will come out.
