Default Shuddering steering

I have the front end up trying to figure this one out: the steering felt off after having the steering cooler lines replaced.
I’m getting a visible shudder in the steering. Not smoothly across the whole range, but more in some positions than others.
Any chance this is a bleeding issue?
Or any clue as to what to be looking at, really.
Any hint is appreciated...

Ah ha! And it doesn't shudder when the engine is off. That seems super relevant.
Really hoping bleed and not power steering unit or pump.

Bleeding/flushing the power steering system is easy so I'd say try that first.
Also... is your steering damper connected or going bad?

I think I found a solution last night.
Some random googling got me to a Volvo forum... ran the steering back and forth 20 or so times with the engine off. Seems to have squeezed the air out.
Ill give it a few more goes before I lower it.
That said, some bleeding would be good. Where is the bleed screw? Looked easy in the rave, but couldn’t find it when I was underneath.

that's because the bleed screw is on top of the steering box. you can't see it from underneath.

Nope. I take that back. Just makes it better, didn’t solve.
Now to find that bleed screw.

Okay. Been bleeding the hell out of it. Used this guy's great clear hose recirculation technique:

Did get some air out.

But it's still shuddering.

I worry that I've blown something more major. The steering pump is fairly new (although cheap), I think the only thing I haven't replaced in the system is the actual steering unit. Which of course scares the hell out of me. Those are $$$$.

I drove it after, and it feels !00 times better. Still a little off, but nothing like before.

You didn't mention the condition of the steering damper... If OG then your steering will be loose. It actually makes a huge difference if you have never updated it.

Should be good. When I got it it was totally shot. One of the first things I replaced...
****, that actually makes it fairly old. Scary to start having things come around for the second time.
Still, pretty sure it's in decent shape...
