Default Shuttle Valve Switch / ABS Codes / Need Advice Very Badly

Hi everyone

Its good to be back it has been a long time since I have been able to logon (it’s a long story) anyway I am back and need some advice like usual. As you may know already I have a 2004 Disco II. Awhile back the ABS, TC, Downhill Decent, & Brake light known to you guy as the 4 amigos came on and stayed on. Today I finally went somewhere and had the codes read and this is what they told me.
ABS Code 157: rear left sensor output too low
ABS Code 189: rear left sensor output intermitla ß don’t know if this is correct spelling
ABS Code 212: Shuttle valve switch electrical failure

The mechanic told me I have two options. First option is he could try to clean the sensors and everything else that’s linked to the problem in hopes it will make the lights go away for around $400.00 or have him replace the shuttle valve for around $1,500.00 to $1,800.00 which will fix the problem.

Should I have him clean whatever he plans on cleaning for $400.00
Should I purchase the ABS Modulator Shuttle Valve Repair Kitfor $65.00 and have him install that? If so how much is the maximum or decent charge I should pay total for this job?

Should I Just get the ABS Modulator Valve Kit for $730.00 and find someone to install it for me and if so how much is a decent total amount to pay for this job?

I just don’t know what to do……..Please advice

Before you start swiping your debit card....have you read this??? Not sure or not if it would apply to your specific issue, but just want to make sure you cover your bases.

the 65 dollar repair kit doesn't work at all.

but you will need a new hub on the LR. nine times out of ten the sensor ring goes bad inside the hub. And no you can't clean the sensors whatsoever.

Geez what a crock of ****.

Stay away from this guy.

Although personally I don't recommend that abs shuttle valve repair but this is the internet and you do what you want.

You might also read Josh's sticky at the top of the Discovery section. He has a good write up on repairing the module and I have helped on one repair, it is easy, won't cost you $400 and it works for the shuttle vale issue.
If you have any questions send me your number and I'll call you.

I too am getting an intermittent 3 amigos as Ive stated before but it only comes when headlights are on and I select a left turn signal or maybe a fog light... anyway, Ive been searching today but to no avail, if anyone out there with the ABS Code reader can rent it to me ? Id like to find out what is going on here... if its just the shuttle valve mod well thats simple enough! but if its something else not so simple Id like to address that also! lol

Have you had your battery and alternator checked? That could be the cause of your issues. These rigs go all kinds of bat **** crazy when those two parts are on their way out.

well , I just replaced my battery which was showing to be faulty... I had auto zone stick on the tester for alternator and it showed to be fine... someone had mentioned that to me before... maybe their tester isnt so accurate?
