Default SKP Oil Pump - Primed and Ready from the Factory?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the SKP front cover (oil pump) is already primed from the factory? I bought the part from Rock Auto and checked with them and SKP, but no clear answer yet. The back plate that covers the oil pump gears smells a bit differently than the rest of the front cover - I’m guessing it’s already primed, but if not I’d like to find out before installing this. I’m hoping not to pull the plate off for no reason (appears the screws are in with loctite), but I also wouldn’t want to find out the pump isn’t primed (or isn’t done in the right way somehow, which would cause issues or increase the frequency I’d have to get into this again) after installing it.

I have the part for a 2003 D2.

SKP SK115084

Thank you

Thank you - I pulled off the plate and found that it might’ve just had some gear oil on it, nothing more.

Should I pack petroleum jelly behind the gears or does it look alright like it is?

That looks about what I did. I don't remember if I packed it behind the gears or not. Not sure if you can put "too much" jelly in there. My oil pressure came up immediately
