I thought I read I just have to remove the front drive shaft - is that pretty much it?

Yeah thats pretty much it. I had to replace pan gasket and I really didnt need to even do that but it make life a lot easier. but with my new lift it wouldve been real easy

 

I threw mine on jackstands (under the frame) and let the axle drop back down, tires on.

Did not remove driveshaft.

I coulda' had an oil pan party under there (I did) - pull your pickup tube and clean well.

I used brush-on hi-tack on pan gasket, made it easier to re-install.
