Sport Mode Issue
Recently, every time I start my 2000 Disco II it starts in sport mode. I need to hit the switch to take it out of sport mode.
This has been going on for about a month and it will be in sport mode after starting the truck every time.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Art

Perhaps you inadvertently set it to where it always starts in sport mode. Try checking the owners manual to see if you can switch it back.
Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't aware that it could be set to always start in sport mode.
If this isn't the case could it be a battery problem?
I think I have a weak battery because I only drive the Rover every couple of weeks and I have noticed that it seems like the battery may not be holding a full charge.
When I go to start it it seems like the battery is weak but after I drive it a bit it will fire right up.

If you have one, try sticking a trickle charger on the battery, and that will keep it charged up. But it might be time for a new battery.
FWIW, I bought a top of the line (something MAXX) battery from Wal-Mart (it was the middle of the night, I needed a battery, and nobody else was open) and it's been great. It's been sitting below freezing for several weeks without being charged, and still cranked my Heep over like it was brand new.
There is nothing in owner manual or rave about setting truck to start in sport mode @ startup. Check out this thread, it may shed some light on your problem. https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=22175
Crazy idea, maybe it's the EAT ECU here is some reading from the rave manual. Maybe the transfer box is in Low?
Economy, sport and manual modes
During the power-up procedure after the ignition is switched on, the EAT ECU defaults to an economy mode. Pressing the mode switch causes the EAT ECU to change between the economy mode and the sport or the manual mode, depending on the range selected on the transfer box:
If the transfer box is in high range, the EAT ECU changes to the sport mode and illuminates the sport mode warning lamp in the instrument pack. In the sport mode the gearbox is more responsive to accelerator pedal movement. Downshifts occur earlier and upshifts occur later.
If the transfer box is in high range, the EAT ECU changes to the sport mode and illuminates the sport mode warning lamp in the instrument pack. In the sport mode the gearbox is more responsive to accelerator pedal movement. Downshifts occur earlier and upshifts occur later.
If the transfer box is in low range, the EAT ECU changes to the manual mode and illuminates the manual mode warning lamp in the instrument pack. Kickdown is disabled and the EAT ECU maintains the gearbox in the gear selected on the selector lever (D = 4th gear) to give improved off road performance. Downshifts occur only to prevent the engine stalling. From a standing start, the vehicle pulls away in 1st gear and, if a higher gear is selected, upshifts almost immediately to the selected gear (shifts of more than one gear can occur). After a second press of the mode switch the EAT ECU reverts to the economy mode, for the range selected on the transfer box, and extinguishes the related mode warning lamp in the instrument pack.
Thanks to everyone for their input.
It turned out to be the battery. It must have been just weak enough to start the truck but not enough voltage to set all the electrics properly.
I put a new battery in and the problem is totally resolved.
I put a meter on the battery and it is a bit low. Will charge up but not hold the charge for more than a day before it starts dropping.
Thanks again,
Art
