Question Starting Issues and Codes... Help!

For the last couple months I have been getting the SES light coming in my -01 D2 w/100k- on for a couple days, or couple weeks and then shutting itself off for a few weeks before coming back on. I finally got the code read as p0304, only to shut itself off soon after. This sometimes corresponds with the a rough idle, and after letting er' sit for a bit she comes to.

Friday night, I noticed a rough start and then started driving on the highway and 10 minutes later the SES light came on flashing (after not being on at all) for about 30 seconds, with no noticeable change with how the engine was running. When we arrived at the destination for dinner everything was fine until I tried to start back up to drive home after and she barely started after cranking for a LONG time (three bursts of 5 seconds and finally started at the end of the third).

Haven't driven since then, but about to try. I would really like some advice on how to tackle this problem.

Also:
-I haven't changed the plugs wires yet in this disco that I have had for 2 years and 30k miles but planning on doing this soon.
-Am about to go and try to read the current code
-Had about a 100 highway miles on her right before all of this happened (Came back from camping Friday morning)

Any thoughts...?

Plugs and wires go a long ways toward eliminating misfire codes.

Try switching key to run position, but not cranking. Leave it there 3 seconds, then off, then repeat 3 more times. The fuel pump runs each time you do this. If it cranks right up, could indicate fuel pressure not holding or pump weak.

Codes could indicate cam shaft position sensor. Probably not crank shaft positions sensoir because this is not happensing every time engine gets hot and is turned off for a short period.

Order a set of 8 mm STI wires from Rover Parts of Utah, cost about $70 and far better then anything from the local parts store.
Might also consider a set of E3-48 plugs for a lot more low end power.

Thanks Mike! What the difference between the STI's and the Magnecores? Is there a clear difference?
