Question Steering fluid filter

How to replace the steering filter supposed to reside inside the reservoir, or inspect for debris ?

My pump is noisy crying. Would like to make sure there is no shavings or harmful whatever anywhere in the fluid circuit before replacing the pump.

If there is shavings, is there a way to tell if the source is the pump or the steering gearbox ?

Reservoir is on the mx schedule to replace, page 3 and easily overlooked. You probably answered my prior puzzlement as to the why.
• The Power Steering/ ACE fluid reservoir should be replaced at 150,000 miles (250,000 kilometers)
