steering wobble at 40mph+ after getting stuck
I have a 2004 Disco 2 with Diff. Lock. I took it on the beach and did not put it in Diff. Lock. I got stuck and then put it in Diff. Lock. Still was stuck but then got a tow out. The Traction control light came on while trying to dig out. After that, steering wheel wobbles badly at 45 mph and up. I had driven it down to the beach at 70 mph no problem, started after getting stuck. I put different tires on the front today and it didn't help. I tried to see if there was play in the wheels from left to right and up and down and there was none. The tie rods seem to not be sloppy but the steering knuckle tie rod can be moved/pivoted but I think this is normal it does not go up and down though. The damper shock looks original. It has 149000 miles. I thought this may be a warped rotor from the Traction control episode so I thought maybe replacing them first may be a good start. Any recommendations. The tires on the rear are not too good but i figured that would not affect steering wobble.
If you didn't bend anything, steering components, and you changed tires...my next best guess would be mud or packed sand in the cooling fins of brake rotor (center portion). Or maybe you damaged your front driveshaft and it's vibration is being transmitted through the steering wheel?
