The truck is stock height. The tires are fairly new. The truck rides nice and smooth with the front driveshaft removed. When the driveshaft is in, it vibrates thru the floor, I'm sure its something with the front drive assembly. I'll remove the shaft again and check the front end. I feel like I'm driving a station wagon when I don't have my 4x4.

Or your front diff is wonky.
Can you grab the input of the front diff and can you try to move it even 1mm or less up and down?

Any play in the front diff input?

You need some pros on the drive shaft like these guys.

Good post jfall. Very informative and defines the accuracy parameters. It's frightening the accuracy and balance they are trying to achieve, 0.002", that's tight

It doesn't sound like axle driveshaft or wheel bearings otherwise it would still vibrate. For my money I'd go with diff pinion bearings as they may not run eccentric with no load, i.e. with not front shaft. It would only need a minute run out on the pinion bearings under load to shake and vibrate. Problem is if they let go it'll wreck the axle casing or the diff planet bearings/gears cage even maybe crack it completely. It has happened to me many, many years ago on the rear diff of an old 60's Austin Westminster 3.0 car. Had the cage welded up but it was never the same.

Is the gear ratio same on different models and years? Maybe I could swap the front axel. I'm thinking a used one, but then I might run into other issues.

hey..just a comment... I was having a strong vibration in the front of my Disco '01... I rebuild the propeller shafts, both... tire balance ok.. and the vibration continues... then.. I goes into a front ABS sensor problem... I decide to change it....when I took apart the wheel hubs..... both of them was bone dry and the seals are cracked... so I changed... surpise.... the vibration dissapears.... so check your wheel hubs.... you need to take it out and inspect them... if you try to check installed.. you can not see if they are good or bad...
just a comment.. works for my Disco...
