Default Strange Brake Issue

Okay, I've noticed something today. When I have my Disco in park and press on the brake pedal, there is a click/thump from the gear selector housing in the center console. It's right inside, since I can actually feel it in the housing and the ****.

Has anyone had this before, or know what might be causing it? I'm leaving on a 600+ mile roundtrip tomorrow, and would like to know if it's something to be concerned about.

Thanks!

Chris

Happens every time you start the engine, put your foot on the brakes and shift out of park, that is your shift solenoid relasing the tranny from park.

Interesting. So it reengages if you release the footbrake without putting it in gear, right?

I have been having a problem with the park gear, since sometimes I have to wiggle the selector to get the little light on the console to come on, and if I don't get the light to come on and open the door, it sets off the alarm . . .

The noise has gotten more pronounced and it's been a little difficult to get it into or out of park. Is it possible that the solenoid is failing?

They can but in your case I doubt it. if anything your selector may be out of adjustment, no big issue and Iwouldn't worry about it on your trip.

Thanks, Mike. We're heading off into the mountains for the weekend, so I'm hoping to actually put my truck through it's paces for the first time in several years. We could have taken the wife's Beetle, but it wouldn't have been the same. Cheaper, gas wise, but not the same.

I'm still getting weird brake warnings, but I think it's from a faulty sensor, since the brakes themselves look fine.
