Default stuck in park

ok i just finshed my head gasket job. the bottom cooler lind popped off. sprayed fluid everywhere. other then that before the job no problems with shifting. no check engin light. could it be bc the tranny is low on fluid it wont go in gear? is the bottom cooler for the tranny? any ideas?

ok no brake lights, and the line keep popping off. i think i may have the line fixed. i would research but i have to be out of this house by friday moring. thanks again

idk, but isn't there a like a position sensor that keeps from shifting without depressing brakes?

Loads of threads here about this, I still have nightmares. Five minutes of searching should give you plenty of info.

If your brake light switch needs replacing it is cheap and easy (which we all love, not just with rovers either).

What hose are you referring t? If you have no brake lights, then your brake switch is broken at the brake pedal, common part that most auto parts store can get you.

The bottom cooler is for the gear box. If the brake switch is broken and you're in a bind and have to get it in drive, you can wiggle up the shifter cover in the center counsel, and on the left hand side push in the solenoid keeping it locked in park. Here's a picture:
